Mr. Gilbert is Of Counsel with the Firm and a member of the Litigation Division. Having spent several years litigating on behalf of Florida League of Cities’ clients, he continues his practice in the areas of municipal/governmental defense, civil rights defense, police liability, personal injury, liability, and employment law in both State and Federal courts. Additionally, Mr. Gilbert’s practice involves significant appellate work before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Previously, he worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit; and as the Deputy Policy Director for Former Attorney General Janet Reno’s Campaign for Governor. Mr. Gilbert began his career as the Legislative Aide for State Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, District 109. In this position, he developed legislation, met with constituents, provided administrative support, and organized community events.
Mr. Gilbert is a cum laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law. While at the University of Miami School of Law, Oliver was a member of the Society of Bar and Gavel (its highest honor society); Omicron Delta Kappa (honor society); Student Bar Association (senator); and Black Law Student Association (National Board Member-Southern Regional Director).
Mr. Gilbert is also proud of his accomplishments in the community. He currently serves as Vice Mayor for the City of Miami Gardens. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Florida Ocean and Sciences Institute, which provides rehabilitative services for at risk youth. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Jessie Trice Community Health Centers, which provides healthcare services for low income families. He is a member of the T.J. Reddick Bar Association; Haitian Lawyers Association; North County Citizen’s Association; Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University National Alumni Association; the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated; and Miami Fellows –Class V.
