Joseph Serota, Eric Hockman, and Anne Reilly Obtain Trial Victory on Behalf of City of Homestead in Lease and Purchase Agreement Dispute

On March 3, 2016,  Founding Member Joseph Serota, Partner Eric Hockman, and Associate Anne Reilly obtained a trial victory on behalf of the City of Homestead, Florida, in a lease and purchase agreement dispute.  La Ley Sports Complex at the City of Homestead had entered into a lease and agreement to purchase the Homestead Sports Complex for $16,000,000, which includes a baseball stadium originally built for the Cleveland Indians.  La Ley’s suit sought $3 million from the City, claiming that the City had committed fraud in connection with the lease and purchase agreement.  The City counterclaimed against La Ley for over $600,000 in unpaid utility bills and other charges.  Following a one-week bench trial, the Court found in favor of Homestead, concluding that the City committed no fraud and awarding all the damages sought by the City in its counterclaim.
