Sports and Entertainment Law

Our firm's attorneys have represented sports law clients in a large variety of areas.

We have served as general counsel to The Orange Bowl Committee, Inc. for over two decades, assisting in all aspects of the Orange Bowl football games, basketball tournaments, junior tennis championships, international sailing regattas, lacrosse games, youth football leagues, and other festival events. Our services to The Orange Bowl Committee include responding to RFP’s by the Bowl Championship Series (“BCS”); negotiation of contracts with the BCS, stadiums, broadcast networks, title sponsors, participating teams, hotels, transportation companies and security; assistance in zoning, licensing, registration and protection of trademarks, trade names, service marks and other intellectual property issues; interfacing with local governmental authorities; merchandising, and all other aspects involved in production and hosting of the games and related festival events.

We also represented:

  • The University of Miami in negotiating an Use Agreement with Sun Life Stadium for the venue of its football games
  • OSOC of South Florida, Inc. in responding to a request for proposal by the Atlanta Olympic Organizing Committee to host and produce the soccer quarter finals for the Atlanta Olympic Games and after being awarded the contract, negotiations of the implementing contracts as well as related contracts for the venue, hotels and related activities
  • Montreal Expos and the St. Louis Cardinals in a joint venture to construct a jointly-owned off-season practice site facility in Palm Beach, Florida, as well as related naming rights and other agreements.
  • South Florida Golf Foundation, Inc. in connection with negotiations with the PGA to host and produce the PGA Tour Event at the Doral, including contracts with the PGA, the Doral Resort & Spa as the venue, title and other sponsorship agreements and related agreements
  • The NFL in three (3) Super Bowls in connection with negotiation of use agreements with venues for the football games and related agreements

Many of the sports law clients are nonprofit corporations, and we have also advised these clients on IRS compliance issues and corporate governance as well as advising their boards of directors on a multitude of issues covering various issues from board liability, real estate, labor, and direct support organizations.
