Miami-Dade Managing Director and transportation attorney, Mitch Bierman, recently spoke with the Sun Sentinel’s David Lyons about the regulation of e-scooters in South Florida. Although scooter companies have permits only for a specified city or area, Mitch explained that riders could essentially ride the scooters wherever they’d like, even if beyond city limits. Mitch went on to say, “However, cities each regulate the franchising of scooter rental companies. If a rental company lacks a franchise in a city and a customer leaves the scooter parked on a sidewalk or right of way, the city could impound the scooter.”
